It’s not often that breaking news comes from Twin Bridges, nor has any breaking news ever been revealed on this blog. But today I have breaking news. 

The minute we got off the plane in Montana last Sunday we heard that the ranch down the road on the other side of Pat’s place had sold. A day later we heard that a high profile person had bought it and the person’s identity was being kept secret. I was hoping maybe Gabriel Byrne or Donald Sutherland or perhaps Ted Kooser or a rock star would be moving in. Yesterday morning I got a phone call and learned who the high profile person was. Donald Rumsfeld. Yes, that Donald Rumsfeld.

R. was in the fly shop yesterday getting his fishing license and learned that our new neighbor had just been in the shop a few hours before. Now there are Donald sightings all over town. I have mixed feelings about all this. On one hand, Twin Bridges is a very small town (population 412) and can use all the help and publicity it can get. On the other hand there’s a guy who helped get us into the Iraq war now living down the road. As R. said, I sure hope he doesn’t invite Cheney up here to go hunting with him.
