The Marketing Whore at Work

Here's an email that I sent out to a lot of friends this week. If you're on my email list and missed it (some emails bounced back) here it is. And if you're not on my email list and a reader of this blog but somehow managed to miss that I have a book coming out – well, here's all the information.

When you have a book published this is just what you do – get in touch and sell. (And this is such a different part of you than the part that writes the book.) My darling friend and colleague, the writer Amy Friedman just wrote me back to say that she already has a lot of animal support networking started for me, and other friends have written that they're sending out emails too. This can be a make or break for a book and I'm deeply grateful to them all.

PS: Since I sent this out I just learned from Dr. Bob Goldman (who wrote the preface) that the pre-order copies will be shipped soon than expected – in a week or so.

Dear Family and Friends –

My new book, Cherished: 21 Writers on Animals They Have Loved & Lost, will be published by New World Library on April 11th.  A picture of the cover is attached below.

This is a book for anyone who loves animals and good writing, and also for those who have gone through the loss of a beloved pet. The essays in the anthology are by some famous writers – Anne Lamott, Mark Doty, Joe Morgenstern, Carolyn See, Thomas McGuane, Jane Smiley – as well as other writers not quite as famous but all accomplished and published.

Royalties will be donated to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, an amazing dog/cat/horse/et al, rescue sanctuary in Utah. If you would forward this email on to at least ten friends who love animals and ask them to forward it on etc. it would be much appreciated by me, New World Library, and the animals at Best Friends.

You can pre-order a copy (or dozens if you feel so inclined) at Amazon right now at a greatly discounted price of just $8.49 (Operators standing by!)
Blessings to you and your animals,
Barbara
