Here's a link to interesting, valuable advice about writing and blogging from Joyce Carol Oates. She said if she was starting out today she'd write a blog before writing a book. (I agree with her – I found the voice for A Year Of Writing Dangerously by writing this blog for six years.)

Think about what kind of essays you're writing, or the subject of the book your writing or dreaming about. Could you could turn into a blog? My niece Elizabeth loves to garden and cook – check out her wonderful Olivewood Kitchen blog. My friend Pat in Montana writes about nature and politics in Darwin's Prisoners, Denise writes Leaving Divorceville about her divorce, another Elizabeth writes about her daughter in The Moon worn As If a Shell, and if you love films, especially romantic comedies, surely you've checked out Billy Mernit's Living the Romantic Comedy. All of these blogs have fabulous writing in them.
What is your interest, your passion? Or what's the situation you find yourself in that maybe the only way out is by writing your way through it.
