Films For Writers

There’s a small subgenre of wonderful recent movies about writers, in which their writing is an important part of the plot.  Stranger Than Fiction (the 2006 film, not an earlier one with the same title), Adaptation of course, and the latest is Atonement. I’d read the novel by Ian McEwan about eight years ago and loved it, and this week I saw the film. It’s a rare and amazing occurrence to have a book you love made into a film you love. I’ve been thinking about the plot ever since  – how all the pieces  fit together like a Swiss watch put into motion by the characters’ deepest needs and desires.  I won’t discuss the ending in case you haven’t read the book or seen the film, but if you’re writing fiction, or just reading fiction, see this movie.

See all three in fact and leave your  thoughts under Comment below.
