The Lost Post

Post

After my last post asking readers what their writing rituals are, Debra in a comment asked me about my own rituals. So early Sunday morning as I walked on the beach I wrote in my head a whole post about my rituals. The post was really terrific – funny, interesting and useful. Except I didn’t make any notes when I got back from my walk. I didn’t write down anything and now I don’t have a clue to what I was going to write. I can’t even imagine what I could possibly say on the subject that could be useful or interesting or let alone funny.

Sunday afternoon I drove up to Idyllwild and got organized to teach my week-long writing workshop and forgot about the whole thing. So here I am today, late Tuesday afternoon in the library at Idyllwild Arts, online and thinking about doing a post, not knowing what to write about and wishing I’d walked my own talk: Carry a notebook! Write down your ideas or you’ll lose them! (FYI: dear readers: carry a notebook.)

It’s poetry week up here at Idyllwild Arts and Ted Kooser is the star visiting poet. I’m behaving like a groupie. Too in awe of him to actually strike up a conversation, I lurk in the shadows. My students and I attend his readings and yesterday a rare and wonderful treat – an hour talk he gave in a master class. Fortunately I did take notes.More on this in the next post.
