January 1, 2009
Happy New Year everybody. What will be different for you this year? What do you want to change? What do you want to accomplish? (I’m just a fool for New Year resolutions. I make a list every single year.)
You could start writing a page a day and by next time this year you’d have 365 pages of a book. Or you could start writing an essay a week, or an essay a month (twelve essays a year isn’t bad.). Or you could start a journal and write in it at least once a week. Or you could finish/rewrite all those manuscripts you began but never managed to send out.
Whatever it is you want to do with your writing, write your goals down. Start a journal in your computer or buy a notebook. Buy some wonderful pens you love to write with.
As for me, I’m taking it one month at a time this year. January is the month for finishing my novel-that-never-ends. I’ve cleared the decks – cleaned my office, slashed out every day in January on my calendar, and I may or may not write posts for this blog. But on January 31st I send the final manuscript to my agent.
Let us know your goals – either for the whole year or just the month of January.
