The Mother Egg

Egg

Two former students have just been published in a wonderful online magazine The Mom Egg (www.themomegg.com)  Denise Emanuel Clemen wrote “Holding Cory” an incredibly moving piece about reuniting for the first time with the son she had to give up for adoption when she was a teenager. Elizabeth Aquino wrote another piece full of emotion about her daughter, “Thoughts On a Picture of Sophie In An Antique Silver Frame” . This came from an exercise I gave in class: find a family photograph and write about what happened before or after the picture was taken. What people are wearing, the setting, the body language.

As it happens, part of this week’s homework in my current class is to bring a photograph in next week– and last Tuesday I read Denise’s photo exercise that was published in Courage & Craft to the class. (If you’re writing a memoir, this is a wonderful exercise to help you remember details of your own life.) Both Denise and Elizabeth have blogs.
