So I bought a new iPhone today and the guy said just plug in the old one to your computer and blah blah blah and then download it to blah blah blah. Then plug in the new one and blah blah blah. I came home and immediately texted my friend/all-things-electronic guru Rob Daly that OMG I don’t know what I’m doing, woe is me, all communication is dead etc. And then I plugged in my old phone to my computer, calmed down and started following instructions and lo and behold I had transferred all information to my new phone before Rob could get back to me. (God bless Steve Jobs). I felt so empowered that the Mexican table serving as my temporary desk that I wanted out on the porch but couldn’t move – I moved. Just picked it up, got it through the door and out on to the porch.

Next week, totally nested and electronically connected I go back to writing, and here’s a wonderful quote by Mary Karr about memoir:

“In some ways, writing a memoir is knocking yourself out with your own fist, if it’s done right.”
― Mary Karr, The Art of Memoir

If you’re writing a memoir or a novel or essay (or have just been dreaming of starting to write) think about coming to my next Writers Retreat in Lake Arrowhead October 14th – 16th at the UCLA Conference Center. It’s $840 for room and board (fabulous meals), workshops, one on ones, everything. If you’re interested let me know and I’ll put you on the list. I’ll be sending out applications in a few weeks.
