Difference Between a Book and a Blog

   CourageCraft_hr

The difference between writing a book and writing a blog becomes really clear to me as I work on A Year of Writing Dangerously. I'm using some of the posts from this blog in the book but each one needs to be rewritten. Though I really try to avoid chattiness on WritingTime, I find I'm Chatty Cathy as I edit myself for the book. It's a fine line – and hard to articulate  - kind of like that old line about pornography – I know it when I see it. In a book about writing you want to be warm and accessible, but not sound like you're shooting out emails to good friends.

You also want to be current and up to date in a book, but not to the point where you date the book. An editor caught me on this in Courage & Craft – I was being really specific about some aspect of technology and she suggested that I might be more general so I didn't date the book. And she was absolutely right.

Finally, thank you dear readers for your comments and loyalty to this blog. Your interest has been a huge factor in creating A Year of Writing Dangerously
