We write about what we're most interested in, what we're thinking about, what we love, what we obsess on, and what we're doing. I'm sure this is as true for you as it is for me.

And on that note let me introduce you to my new subject: a house. A very charming house that my contractor/inspector begged me not to buy. (and I mean begged.) I ignored him. So this vintage Lake Arrowhead cabin, circa 1936, becomes mine when escrow closes on May 1. 

I've done this over and over – bought very old, rundown houses (but good bones! I tell everybody) – and then proceed to go crazy.  But I'm still in the honeymoon phase with this house. It's like being in love. I imagine uncovering and polishing the oak floors that have been hidden under old carpeting, I dream of all the current tchotchkes in it disappearing and white slipcovered furniture around the fireplace. Of course before all that happens there are some tiny plumbing and electrical issues to deal with. (Okay, major.)

For those of you interested in houses I'll do some before and after pictures once it's mine. And then I'll go back to writing about writing.
