A Quote for Writing Retreats

(writers retreat 2011- )

The 2012 Writers Retreat is this weekend in Lake Arrowhead and I'm excited about working with the writers who are attending. Three days of gorgeous fall weather in the mountains and nothing for them to do but write or read or hike. Also the meals are fabulous at the UCLA Conference Center where everyone is staying.

I just found this great quote by Mark Salzman (from The Man in the Empty Boat) who spent time in retreat at the MacDowell Colony: "…the biggest gift of all was the removal of all reminders of art as a profession, as a way of making money or gaining a reputation, and even as a means of solving one's own existential problems through the resolution of fictional ones. Everyone there wanted the same thing: to be reminded of what it felt like to be pulled toward his or her work, and to be unable to resist."

(if you want to be on the early notice list for the next retreat please email me at B.Abercrombie@verizon.net)
