One day in class about twelve years ago, Linzi Glass handed me a story called “The Year the Gypsies Came” and asked if I’d read it; she didn’t know what it was or what she should do with it. Not only did I love the title, I loved the whole story – the setting, her images that read like prose poems, her characters. It’s a novel, I told her. She said she didn’t know how to write a novel and I said she’d figure it out. And she did.
