Annie and David Get Married

Hardly anyone was out today in the Park. It had snowed again last night and was melting off the trees like rain and the air smelled green, full of pine and cedar.  R. wanted to see Yosemite Falls up close one more time to take a few more photographs, and since this was the last day of our stay up here I left my computer to go with him.  We headed up the path in the above photo and when we got to the bottom of the Falls we saw in the distance a man holding an umbrella, reading something to a couple who were standing in front of him. I realized right away we had stumbled upon something very private and started backing away, embarrassed. They turned to us (here they are in the snowy wilderness of Yosemite having a very private ceremony with just a minister and no guests and we show up laden with cameras and iPhone) but as we backed away the woman said, “We’re getting married but we forgot about witnesses. Would you be our witnesses?”

So we witnessed their wedding – the exchange of rings, the prayers, the kiss. It was mystical and moving – the Falls in the background, this sweet couple, the seriousness and joy of the moment. Then we signed our names on their wedding certificate and we all introduced ourselves – her name was Annie and his David, and R. took wedding pictures and I took the photos below with my iPhone.  We exchanged email addresses and I promised to send them a wedding picture right away – which I just did. And along with that dear Annie and David we send you blessings for a long and happy life together – and thank you for letting us be part of such a magical moment.
