Kaizen for 2017

I’m not quite clear how it got to be 2017, but here we are. Another year and a clean slate ahead of us.(Many of you may be relieved to hear that I’m not going to waste one more ounce of energy ranting about politics this year.)

What will you write in 2017? Are you going to have a schedule for your writing practice? Start the memoir or novel you’ve been dreaming about forever? Or finish what you began to write in 2016?   There’s a Japanese word I love – kaizen which means making a big change by making one small change every day. If you’re struggling to start writing or to finish something, what can you change in your writing practice to make it happen? Keep it simple and easy, so it can turn into a habit. That’s what your writing practice should be  – a habit. You don’t have to make a big deal out of this, all you have to do is write. Buy a notebook and start keeping a journal. You can write anything in your journal – weather reports, ideas for your novel, memories. Just begin. And then maybe you’ll make some small steps into your book

The Marketing Whore wants me to remind you that if you’d like to have a book to dip into every day to encourage you, well, there is one available.

Technical problems have bogged me down on this website for the past month (those weird repeating pictures) and today Rob Daly blew through all the problems and got them fixed. If you need some technical help he’s the best.  Here’s his email: rd11@me.com
