FInally Figuring out Facebook

Community[1]

After two years of being snarky about Facebook, calling it Junior High etc., I finally "got" it, I finally understand now what Facebook is all about. I thought you had to know your "friends" – and I was always amazed at those people with 700 or a thousand friends. How popular they must be! And here I was delighted when my friend count went over fifty.

Check out my Facebook page, people! As I type this I have over 600 friends. Somehow I got into a loop of writers and teachers and finally I figured out that you click on suggested friends – "here are some friends you might know…."  whether you know them or not! And when you do, the whole thing blooms. You click on one person and they accept and then you get a whole new slew of 'here are some friends you might know' – and on and on, and the beauty of it is that it's a whole network of writers, poets and teachers. And when my next book is published, with one message and a click each and everyone of them will know about CHERISHED: 21 Writers on Animals They Have Loved & Lost.  Facebook has become the Marketing Whore's best friend.

And also, as my new friend Tamar in London says, it's wonderful having friends all around the world.
