The Writer’s Road

I’ve had this idea for a book for ages, but there are three other ideas ahead of it, so I thought I’d just fool around with it on the blog. Every road sign I see seems like a metaphor, a little message for writers. Hence: The Writer’s Road. (And perhaps someday it will be a book. In any event it’s more fun to take pictures for it than actually write it.)

The novel I’m working on (and have been working on and on and on..) is an alligator habitat. It’s murky water with a lot of weeds and some truly ugly alligators lurking in the murk. And I am not proceeding with caution, I just keep flailing around. Why is it so hard to write a novel? I’m reading perfectly wonderful novels (Beautiful Ruins etc.) and I’m convinced that the authors don’t have the same kind of murk to contend to that I do. (whine alert: it’s 3:00 pm and my work is not going well today.)

Stay tuned: inspiration will arrive soon.
